Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Roope! Thanks so much for accepting this second interview. First of all: how are you guys doing? Long time since the last interview…
Roope:
Hi! Yeah, quite long time, but it´s great to do new interview with you! You know we are still playing together and there hasn´t been any line up changes in these past 4-5 years.. we are doing really great now, thanks!
Hanna Tsepesh: thats great! And about concerts? The public are responding well to the new EP?
Roope:
I think people are getting to know us better, especially in our hometown. When we´re playing in Turku, there´s been circle pit in the crowd and people are moshing, but if we are going to play somewhere outside Turku, it´s still hard to get audience for our show. Before we released "Maailman Synkällä Reunalla" we played almost every show in our hometown, but now we are getting request all over in Finland and we been playing there too, but still we aren´t that well know band that we could get big audience everywhere. That´s one reason why we don´t always go to play if someone been asking us to play.. We try to focus on our music more and waiting when it´s the right time to do more shows in Finland.
Hanna Tsepesh: What is the Theme behing “Maailman Synkällä Reunalla” and whats mean the title?
Roope:
It´s translated something like "At the Dark Edge of the World". This is quite hard question, because we actually don´t got any kind of theme with it. I think Marko, who made all the lyrics, he wants to put something really dark and heavy words in the songs. It´s quite hard to tell you, but I really like his lyrics when I read those and he tries to create something new words that doesn´t exist in these kind of music and there´s always sense in the songs.
Hanna Tsepesh: Roope, I must to say that I am very admired with this new EP, I know you guys since the first Ep and you guys now have a really mature sound in this new EP and also, Marko make a brutal job with guttural voice! I must to say that I really like a lot this EP. I send my congratulations for the entire band. Can you tell to us what is the big differences bethen this Ep and last one? You also think that the band have more a mature sound?
Roope:
(laughs) thank you very much! Sure.. We always try to do better songs and try to do something different also. Big difference with the old and new one is that we recorded our newest in other studio.. It´s been recorded at Ansa studio. We got much brighter and better sound and it was really easy to record in there. We could do there whatever we wanted to do and we felt ourselves really comfortable in there. We also spend more time with the new songs before the studio and we found new ways to produce. We record every song in our rehearsal room and every member was processing the songs.
Hanna Tsepesh: At the recording studio, did you guys face any difficulties? If yes, tell us which were and how did it affect the whole process? Are you guys happy about the final result?
Roope:
Yes, I´m remembering that we kinda did! At the first day we went to Ansa studio and when we got there, we start to load our stuff into the house and suddenly Jori our mixer asked from us "mm.. guys, where´s your drum set?!" And then my face was like: (O_o)?!? Of course we didn´t take our drums because we get used at the other studio where was drum set already.. Luckily, Jori got he`s old drums and we checked those out. We sweep all the dust off and bought new crash cymbals and we were ready to record.. haha! That was really awkward moment, but we got the EP finished and we are more than happy for the final result! I must say that everyone did good job and there wasn´t any problems with the recordings..
Hanna Tsepesh: How has the response been to the EP by the fans and media?
Roope:
Really good.. I wouldn´t say that we got any "Die hard fans" but like I said, people are getting know us better and we got some more listeners. And also "MSR" still sells and the record shop ask more cds, so that´s something really special! We are still talking about EP! "MSR" got good feedback from the reviews. Those compares us bands like Nicole and Suicide Silence.
Hanna Tsepesh: What about if one of our readers wants to buy your EP?
Roope:
