Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Beretz! Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL and thanks a lot for accepting this interview! The band started in 2005 with you and Kris, right? Can you tell us a little bit about DEFIANT journey and also to make an introduction about yourself and the rest of the band.
Beretz: Hello! well I'm Vjeko I'm the guy that screams on mic and playing that guitar....(heheh). I really don't like to talk about me...so there is Kris on solo guitar, Bole on bass and File on drums, all of that defiant thing started when i was having ''brutal night'' in some disco and Kris and me meet and we started to talk about music, and said to each other lets make some band, and tried to play some melodic stuff, and we did it, defiant was born...(hehehe)then we needed to find someone who will play drums and bass, and also we needed to find the vocalist, then we were thinking about bole, like this dude knows how to play bass, Kris called him and he just sad i wanna be in that band, after that we asked file would u like to play drums in band? he said ok...we started to play, but we need vocals, so we tried with couple guys but we weren't satisfied, so i tried to scream and it was ok...and that is it! Birth of mighty defiant! (hehehhehe)
Hanna Tsepesh: (ahah) great answer! What are your inspirations to create the lyrics for DEFIANT?Beretz: politics, stupid people, dark stuff, gore stuff, bad religion...Hanna Tsepesh: What is your favorite bands or musicians?
Beretz: i really don't know...i like progressive stuff,death metal and i hate emo stuff!
Hanna Tsepesh: When did you start to play guitar? Anyone of the musicians or bands that you told before inspired you to start?
Beretz: well i started when i was like 12 years old...first band that i have on vinyl was Iron Maiden and that was from my father, so i wanna to play and i did!
Hanna Tsepesh: Talking about your promo, the riffs have a lot of power i really like all the songs, i really can’t say one music that i specially like more because i like all of them (ehehe)! Tell me Beretz, for people who haven't listen yet, can you talk about the promo and what the band want to accomplish with this new work?
Beretz: well we recorded this promo, well it's demo not promo. We are trying to get some publisher, because we are gonna record this stuff again in a very short time,on that album there will be 14 or 15 songs...album will be called ''without religion there is no fear''but more about that when we record it! (ehehe)
Hanna Tsepesh: (eheh) thanks a lot for the fantastic news about the fist album!We will wait for more news about it! How was the recordings in studio? Do you guys have everything in your heads to start or some ideias simply appear?Beretz: well our drummer have his own studio it's called ''STUDIO DEPTH'' so, it's actually very easy to record our stuff, cause we don't have to pay! (ehehe)well the ideas for the songs just appear and we tried to play that riff and if it's good than we make it come true!
Hanna Tsepesh: The promo cover is amazing, i love it a lot! Can you explain to us the idea to make this cover?
Beretz: well, the cover idea is like there is the statue and there is that dude that is angry at god but he comes from the sky, he is actually mad at the world cause the world is bad! I really don't know...(hehehe)
Hanna Tsepesh: You guys also have a video called “ Bloody Roses”, i have to talk about this video because i like it so much! Tell me, how was the shooting? Did you guys had fun in there? Was difficult to make it? Is a very very cool video with lots of energy!
Beretz: You like everything about us (hehhehe)! Well it was cold that day when we started to shoot that video, and in that place where we recorded it it doesn't have Windows, and it was very cold, so we have to be angry that we don't get cold, (hehehhehe)I'm kidding… it was great it was like some new life experience and we are gonna do it again for the song called ''unhinge it''.
Hanna Tsepesh: Yes i like because i like metal music a lot (ahaha), and i also like to say all the good things the bands have for ours readers to know more about the band (ehehe)! One little curiosity, it is difficult for a metal band to grow up in Croatia? Do you have some kind of support like places to play, labels, radio, magazines and people?
Beretz: yes it is! Well we do but they only like commercial stuff…
Hanna Tsepesh: That is very sad, that the country's don’t support metal bands only because they are not commercial! But, i think that the same thing happens a lot in other country's too! If you have one word to define DEFIANT style, what is your answer and why?
Beretz: METAL!!! (Heheh)
Hanna Tsepesh: (ahaha) ok! Last question, do you want to send a message for all of your fans and future fans out there?Beretz: listen to us, watch star trek and remember that defiant exist...ENGAGE!!!
