Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Mateusz! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! For those who do not know Witchking could tell us a little how it all started?Mateusz: I have formed the band with Darek Bieniek in 2003. We both left a band called Rapid Fire, hired other members and stared making songs for the first album. The line up has changed a lot until now. Currently we're preparing to record our third album.
Hanna Tsepesh: Now the band has a new vocalist, right? Can you explain to us that? You guys going to record some music’s with Michal Zaczek voice? Just for the people listen a little bit…
Mateusz: Tom the Storm left the band a few months ago due to personal reasons. Michal is a great vocalist and he will replace Tom well. At the moment we're working on both old and forthcoming songs. We are going to record some songs in near future for sure.
Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired the band the most to create the lyrics?
Mateusz: I have no idea, because Tom wrote all the lyrics for the last album.
Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? You have any guitarist that you admire the most?
Mateusz: I get my inspiration from various bands, like Amon Amarth, DevilDriver, Machine Head. Recently I like to listen to other kinds of music besides metal. I have discovered Hans Zimmer with his soundtracks to Pirates of the Carribean or Batman - Dark Knight, Muse, Coldplay etc.
Hanna Tsepesh: I would like to know when you start to play guitar? Any reason to pick this instrument?
Mateusz: I started to play guitar 10 years ago. I've chosen to play guitar to get chicks, because I've heard it helps.
Hanna Tsepesh: Witchking have a new album called “Hand of Justice”. For people who don’t listen yet can you talk about this new album and what the band want to accomplish with this new album?
Mateusz: In my opinion Hand of Justice is much better than our first album. It is a mixture of heavy metal and thrash metal. Contrary to “Witchking” it is not a concept album. It has interesting melodies, fantastic riffs, and brilliant lyrics - generally kicks ass!
Hanna Tsepesh: The band feels proud with the final result or you think that miss something? Everything went well at recording studio? It was an easy process?
Mateusz: It was quite easy; we just entered the recording studio and played our parts. We knew exactly what we wanted to record, there were no surprises. Working with Tom Zalewski from ZED Recording Studio is a pleasure.
Hanna Tsepesh: How has the response been to the album by the media and fans?
Mateusz: We received very good response from both media and fans. The record is valued quite high in reviews. We got a huge feedback from fans around the world, who have sent us very kind words about the album.
Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your album, what they can do?
Mateusz: Our album is available mainly in Internet stores. You can find some links to them on our website.
Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this album and why?
Mateusz: I can't choose one song that is better than the others, because I think that all songs are equally good. But if I had to choose just one, I would pick Metal Grail.
Hanna Tsepesh: How are the things doing about metal in your country? It is easy for a metal band have some support in your country?
Mateusz: It's not very bad, but not very good as well. We have a few very good bands here that I am a fan of. But we have problems with attendance on live shows in Poland. Some time ago I was at a concert of an experienced, well known Polish band and there were about 15 people in the club. But it looks like it is changing; we're hosting more foreign bands and it looks promising.
Hanna Tsepesh: The band is thinking about a European tour? You guys have plains to include Portugal in your tour or something?Mateusz: Yes, we will try to extend our territory after releasing the third album. But I don't think about it now, I am concentrated on writing songs. It is hard to be the musician and the manager in one. Anyway, we have an offer to play in Portugal and I hope we will make it. Time will show.
Hanna Tsepesh: Great to ear that! Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?
