Savvas: Hello Hanna, it a pleasure for me to give an interview for you and for THE GATES OF METAL.
Hanna Tsepesh: Thanks a lot, but you don’t need to thank to us! It's our pleasure to interview DRUNKARD! First question, can you tell to us the DRUNKARD history and also to make a little introduction about you and the rest of the band.
Savvas: So let’s start. DrunkarD was formed back in 1999 by me and john, we have already 2 official releases. Our first demo “alcoholic thrash attack” by deathstrike records (germany) and our full length album “hellish metal dominate” by blackmetal.com (USA). We were away from the metal scene for a quite long period due to some difficulties from the past, but we are back to spread some mayhem again.
The line up now is: Me on bass guitar and vocals, orestis and john on the guitars and sakis on the drums.
Hanna Tsepesh: Talking a little bit about you, what are your favorite bands at the moment?
Savvas: My faforite bands of cource always will be the bands tha I grew up with, such as sodom venom destruction etc.At the moment my favorite band is THE CROWN(r.i.p) from sweden and some polish metal bands such as KRONOS, HERMH. Also 2 bands from my town VERMILLION DAYS and SAMATAS that recently reminded me how raw and good THRASH\DEATH METAL should be performed. Full of energy and chaos...
Hanna Tsepesh: Any musician inspired you to sing? You have a cool voice, i liked a lot! With what age did you start to play bass? Why did you choose to play bass? Any reason?
Savvas: Its great that you like my singing, thank you,
If I have to choose one guy that inspired me to sing, I have to say that this guy was Tom angelripper from SODOM. Why did I choose to play tha bass? The answer is quite simple, we wanted to form a band, john played the guitar, Tom angelripper played the bass and singed, so... I wanted to be also Like tom angelripper hehe.All that started when we were 16 years old.
Hanna Tsepesh: What does inspire you to create the lyrics for DRUNKARD?
Savvas:In our early songs the inpiration came mainly from bands like GEHENNAH (sweden) and all the other beerdrinking metal maniacs of that time. Simple lyrics about beers metal satan and all that kind of staff.Now the main lyrics ideas come from my life, our experiences together throut all this time, dressed with an aura of darkness, hell etc. I can say that the lyrics as well as the music were just evolved, became more mature if you know what I mean...I look forward to hear your point of view when you read them.
Hanna Tsepesh: What do you like to do when you have free time?
Savvas: We wanna rock ‘n’ roll all night..and party everyday. Also kicking some ass in video games.. SEX DRUNKS AND METAL, and ofcource rehearsing with DRUNKARD..
Hanna Tsepesh: I have to say my congratulations for all of the band for the brutal songs that the band have at Myspace! I'm really surprised with DRUNKARD talent and the songs have so much power! You guys also have a new album coming, right? Can you tell us a little bit about it(what is the theme?)? What do you guys want to accomplish with that and what is the difference between this album and the last album?
Savvas: So, thanx again for your encouraging and king words of you. And yes you are right. The new album is on its way. Its is called LIKE SIN EXPLODE, It was recorded this june in HERZ STUDIOS (VADER, DECAPITATED,HERMH) in poland, it has 10 brand new songs, and we are still in touch with some labels for its release. The goal for this album is very simple. WE want the album released with a fiar deal, so to have the opportunity to do what we like the most. TOUR .everywhere, spread our noise, and drink everyone’s alcohol...
Hanna Tsepesh: Don’t need to thank, it is the truth! You guys go to "HERTZ" STUDIOS in Poland. How was this experience for you and the rest of the band? How was the recording studio process? You got everything in mind when you started?Savvas: I think for all of us was one of the best experience ever. We had a great time there, we met great people there, really great and frienly people, made some good friends and ofcource recorded a kick ass album.The studio was perfect. It was our house for 14 days, the landscape was ideal, nice and peacefull so we were fully concentrated in the recordinds for 10 hours a day (before we start the booze). We didnt know what to expect before we went there, so we enjoyed every aspect of what the studio had to offer. Every day was a new great experience. A big fuckin thank you to the 2 great guys that run the studio, our sound enginiers SLAWEK and his brother WOjTEK.
Hanna Tsepesh: About concerts, any dates/places at the moment that you can tell to us? There's any plan to play in Portugal in the future?
Savvas: Our next gig that is ofiicial is one show with DEW SCENTED in 8BALL CLUB Thessaloniki Greece in the 26 of february, after that gig we are going to be focused on the forthcoming tour. We really want to come in Portugal, so every invitation would be more than satisfying. So gather all your booze and wait for DRUNKARD soon I hope!
Hanna Tsepesh: It was easy this journey for the band? The band have any help from labels/people/places to play/magazines and radio in your country (Greece)?
Savvas: No it was not easy at all but we really love what we do, we really wanted to take that step, so we enjoyed it 100% despite all the difficulties we have encountered. And NO...we live in Greece so we had no fucking help from anyone but our selfs and only our selfs...
Hanna Tsepesh: That is the spirit! Do You want to send any message for your fans and people that will going to read this interview?
Savvas: I really want you to listen to our album, have fun, tell us what you think about it and bleed in the moshpit when you see us on stage! that’s enough for me..
