M.O.R.G.

Hanna Tsepesh: Olá (Hello in Portuguese) André! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! First of all: how are you and how are the things doing with your concerts?

André: Hello! I'm okay! Thank you for all the support in the first place! About concerts I can say that we stopped temporarily, but we have some local calls and we have also to present the Ep. But nothing concrete…now the main concern of the band is getting a drummer!

Hanna Tsepesh: the band is searching for a new drummer, right? What quality’s the band are searching for a new M.O.R.G? If one drummer is interested to join to the band, can you leave the contacts?

André: Of course! First of all, has to be a person with a great dedication that knows how to work in group! Must have their own material, be available and belong to Porto or Santa Maria da Feira area, but if someone else from other location wants to join us that’s alright! What we want is someone professional with dedication and love for music like us! That person has to be ready to do some sacrifices for the band. You can contact me through my personal email (andre_sand_men@ hotmail.com) or just call me 919125377.

Hanna Tsepesh: for those who do not know the band, could tell us a little how it all started?

André: Well, I got into the band in 2007! I know that the band (M.O.R.G.) started in 2004. A few friends got together and formed the band: João Almeida (voice), Paulo Caetano (guitar), Claudio Maia (guitar), Pedro Simão (bass) and Miguel Coelho (drummer). About two years, they played in several local places and composed several themes, two of them are present in the Ep "Dark Pain" and "Devil Inside", despite having been modified by current formation topics. In 2007, Miguel left the band for personal reasons and Daniel Maia drummer joined the band, changing the band's sound and bringing a new maturity! After a few concerts, they have entered into a home studio to record a demo that never came out. Simão was put out by the band in May of 2007 and I joined the band with 18 years among people 25-28 years! It was very interesting. At the time I was starting to take steps in my music and they invited me, João had seen me play in a local band. He invited me and I accepted, of course! After I entered in the rhythm of the band, a lot of work fell into our hands! Claudio Maia left the project because of this process and, at the beginning of 2008, Vitor, best known by Gadelhas, joined the band. Because of him there was a huge change in the band’s music…about two months later, a lot of changes in our music were made. We participated in a contest for local bands and we won the award for best band of Santa Maria Da Feira - 2008! Besides the band had already won some competitions, I have noticed this was the most important! With the Grand Prize went to studio in the summer of 2008! In Chaos armed studio, but the atmosphere between the band and Gadelhas was not the best, many musical differences and a lot of disrespect. We stopped the recording of the Ep and we give some concerts in Lisbon and Porto and Spain ', but bad environment remained making. Vitor was placed outside the band! And so we began searching for a new guitarist, had several interested parties, but only one is shown with the necessary skills, especially at the level of person was a good fit, Liliano Sousa! We enter again in the studio and recorded the Ep in the summer of 2009 that was produced by Daniel Valente! And unfortunately for the band during this process Daniel Maia leaves the band for personal reasons! And here we are with an Ep released and no drummer!

Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired you the most to create the lyrics and what process the band use to create the riffs to comply with the lyrics?

André: It is a difficult question to answer… But the basic thing is the riff or a chorus, someone brings a good riff and we start to jam and develop the skeleton of the music during this process the voice will be pasting while the music is created, so we have a better idea of what works for us or not, that is unlike most bands that make up the base and then insert a voice in our case the voice is introduced during the creation process. But sometimes more in this new phase of M.O.R.G. already beginning to compose all the music at home and then shows up the idea to the rest of the elements, was something I started doing now and I have several ideas and music composed just for the future! On top of that we have some two or three unfinished songs with new guitarist Liliano that brings other influences for the band, so we are developing a new process of creating songs in the band for the future! About the lyrics, João is the main protagonist in this work, he creates the lyrics and vocal parts, but because I know it is based on a very personal way, and in his manner, but sometimes also based on the concept of the band's name, which goes back to the revolution and change the mind of our generation, this factor can be found very well on the song "Believe" and "Salvation" which has some messages for our generation! "Open your Mind"

Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? You have any musician that you admire the most?

André: This is good! Favorite bands... hummm ... lets see.. In my taste, I have a variety of bands and styles that I adore and worship, I love out of Metal Funk Blues and some jazz, but the level of metal bands, I began to hear Metallica and I still hear, then bands as Megadeth, Carcass, Testament, Motorhead, Misfits, in a more old school style! But I can say that my main benchmarks for the composition are Carcass, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, Metallica, Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, The Doors, etc. The level of musicians, I'm a fan of Cliff Burton (RIP), I love that song he left us "Orion" as others, am also a big fan of Victor Woten, Geezer Butler, John Myung, Greg Christian, Rex Brown, Les Claypool, James Hetfiel, Dimebag Darrel (RIP), Michael Amott and Ken Owen. Due to its importance in the composition, and the unique qualities of each!

Hanna Tsepesh: When you start to play bass? It was difficult to learn?

André: I started playing bass when I was 16 I think it was in 2005, took lessons with Paulo Barros (Tarantula) and a professor of jazz and blues in the area of Aveiro, Zeto Robinson who scored quite my style of play. It was not hard for me to learn because I always spent a lot of my time on the instrument, each instrument has its difficulties and the Bass is one of them, many are indifferent to the bass as the weakest link in the band, but this is an injustice, the importance of the Bass in a band is more than a guitar, why? I say why! The bass is the glue between the drummer and the rest of the band, is what makes it all sound a wall, is very important because it’s rhythmic function to monitor the Drumms and the guitar, and try to add some musicality to the music. I´m not trying to take importance to the guitar in the band, all instruments are important, I just want people to think that bass is not easy, or bass is easier than guitar, each instrument has its own techniques and their purposes, and we must work very to do it at all!

Hanna Tsepesh: I have one curiosity: your vocalist (João Almeida) has any singing lessons or other preparation?

André: No! He developed his style of singing through their influence that only he knows who they are! And with many years of practice! He told me he already sings from his 14 years of age! But I can say that he investigates a lot and always tries to improve, remove voice exercises, and is very careful with it, before playing or recording, he does some exercises to warm up and out there!

Hanna Tsepesh: oh, very cool! What was the highest and lowest point of your career as a musician?

André: My highest point of my career as a musician was when I gave my first concert abroad in Spain in the city of Vigo! It was a big step for me as a musician and the band! The lowest is already more complicated because I have had many low moments, but this time was the loss of our drummer, it was like a brother to me! And lose it has been very difficult to accept!

Hanna Tsepesh: Let’s talk about the “M.O.R.G.”EP. I liked a lot this EP and I was very surprised to listen to some 80’s elements on this EP and also we can listen to some Thrash elements too! I send my congratulations for the entire band! IS a really interesting EP! Can you tell to our readers what they can expect from this EP?

André: What our readers can expect from the Ep is basically a set of five very different songs! Each with a different story and message that together form a union very complex! In general the level of production and recording, we had a lot of time and many personal difficulties to record this EP, it took 5 years for high-terms financial stability and staff to give we take this step forward! The sound level think Daniel Valente, our producer did a great job, is a uniform sound and work well, as mentioned we have many influences present in the sound as heavy and thrash metal, but also have many components melodic! Now one by one! The song "Feelings" was a theme created by our former drummer, I think the music is more universal than the others, more melodic with a heavy message-level lyrics, "Believe" is now a more progressive music full of Riffs Thrash old school and perhaps the heaviest song in the Ep with a message to people in general, "Dark Pain" one more song Heavy Rock, with a letter typical of thrash metal, then we have the "Devil Inside" a theme Thrash melodic with some punk rock influences, such as letters rather good, which speaks of the devil that everyone has within himself, finally we have the "Salvation" is a purely heavy metal music, with influences of 80 years, the level of letters has to do with our band name and the revolution of the mind of our modern generation!

Hanna Tsepesh: at recording studio, you guys faced with difficulties? If yes, tell which was and how as the whole process?

André: The record was a slow process but very fun and creative, we had no problems, all pledged to do the best in parts and had a very competent producer and that left us very at ease! But until we recorded it we have some difficulties, changing elements, even during recording as I said, financial problems, but with a great spirit of sacrifice and dedication have been exceeded and the end achieved a good result!

Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your EP, what they can do?

André: If you want our Ep to simply add andre_sand_men@hotmail.com or send an email to morgband.04 @ gmail.com! Its simple so do not hesitate!

Hanna Tsepesh: I liked a lot the EP art cover! Is like an X-ray of one monster! Is a really cool! Who was the person behind this work? You think that this cover transmit what this Ep are?

André: Yes I think the cover forward and our vision and what is present in the EP. It was a cover drawn by a close friend of André Rios Burning Strain, a band that I recommend to listen, and transmits the aggressiveness of our music, is basically an angry Pitbull in X-ray, as these types of animals can be quite violent as friendly , what is present in our sound! An aggressive yet melodic sound! Simple but straight to cover in my opinion!

Hanna Tsepesh: Very interesting! what is your favorite music in this album and why?

André: In general I think the song "Feelings" is very good, but as a musician I prefer the "Believe" I love playing this song has a bass line very diverse, with mixtures of slaps and other techniques, rhythmic and very heavy! I can shake my head during the music. Very fun too plays this song!

Hanna Tsepesh: What is your opinion about the metal in our country (Portugal)? You think in now days are easy to get support?

André: This was a question I feared, Because I have a very personal opinion about this, and they cannot agree with me, but in five years what I think is that there is still much to do, very much, I give in crazy because of the lot of a nightclub across the country, for the pop music and others styles, hundreds and hundreds, and there is not a infrastructure large enough dedicated to metal, only bars and small clubs to tiny bands touch with poor conditions, taking place or another, but we need someone with the courage to create a infrastructure large enough for the metal bands playing, we need a hard Club again, or something like that. But something that also annoys is the lack of respect for metal bands, but to start his own metal bands have to respect themselves, for there is much competition in this country, and much hatred between bands, which is bad because we are all in the same boat, if we can we help improve the quality of the bands and the conditions for these! We have had several bands that I will not say the name, that tried to harm us and affect our work, of course they failed, but with five years of band already know what the bands that are true and have love for the national metal and which are just to compete and say they play more than this and that! Bands such as Web, Burning Strain, Hells Blood, Warchittect, Buhdy, these are some of the bands that have a futuristic mindset and help the national metal! In the level of disclosure, I think we are an example, Portugal has plenty of people willing to help garage bands and give some coverage to their work, such as blogs and forums, many people who love the style created to publicize the bands, and has done a great job as your example THE GATES OF METAL is one of them, to give the bands an opportunity to outline the work!

Hanna Tsepesh: Yes, and I hope to see more people helping the bands! Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?

André: Yes! Be yourselves. Help to disclose the Metal in Portugal and the level of M.O.R.G. I can only promise that we will make news, and we will always strive and be true to ourselves, a lot of developments and surprises await you, and can always see some of our videos on our Youtube channel where we play songs that are not in Ep unfortunately! And above all we will always be truthful in what we do and say!

Hanna Tsepesh: Thanks o much for your answers and time. THE GATES OF METAL wishes the entire band a big success and a great 2010! Hope to see you guys very soon on stage…

André: Course! Since I thank THE GATES OF METAL and You Hanna for the time and dedication in helping us, to all the readers who read this interview! And I hope you enjoy the Ep ready and that I can say to disseminate and support us as they can! And we are looking for drummer interested in being part of the band! Thank you all! And Rock On!

Hanna Tsepesh: You are very welcome André! Thank you for your words! All the best...

THY SYMPHONY

Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Camila, Rene, Allan, Matthew, Cesar Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL and welcome Back Marcello! Thanks so much all the entire band for accepting this interview! how are you guys?

Camila: My pleasure! It’s great to be here talking to you

Rene: Thank you Hanna

Cesar: Thank you very much Hanna

Marcello: It’s our pleasure Hanna you are a great friend with a great work

Allan: Thank you for this opportunity.

Hanna Tsepesh: You guys are very welcome! in the first interview we spoke about the lyrics theme, about Marcello career and Thy Symphony history, so now I would like to make some questions about the other band members. First of all: What are your favorite bands at the moment? Did you have one band that you admire the most?

Camila: Camila: Hum, that’s always a hard question to answer… I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff, so many different styles, like classical musical, American pop, 80’s, Brazilian music…some days I wake up looking forward to listen to Air Supply, Foreigner or Chicago and suddenly the next day I wake up and put some Nightwish on my CD player. Next day, 30 Seconds to Mars. Well, but talking about rock’n’roll and heavy-metal only, I would say that there are important bands to me like Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody, Labyrinth, Helloween, Within Temptation, Symphony X, Vision Divine and, of course, Iron Maiden and Queen. Those bands brought awesome feelings to me, there’s no explanation for it.

Rene:I´ve been listening,Slipknot,Scar Symmetry,Dimmu Borgir,MasterPlan,Disburted, Pop and classics from 80`s

Allan: I prefer the classics, Now I’m listening Paul Rodgers and Queen, some R&B and waiting THE Flight 666 of you know who.

Cesar: I like classic rock very much. I´ve been listening, Dream Theater, Rush, Yes, Iron Maiden, Metallica and a lot of other bands.

Hanna Tsepesh: let's talk a little about Allan and pretend that he is not listening to our conversation (laughs)! Allan is the new singer, so I would like to know what you guys are thinking about their work so far?

Marcello: Allan is a great singer, really great more than 1, 90, (laughs). Serious he is a great singer, He has the kind of voice I like too much, a stronger voice. He can sing erudite music too, so they mix these techniques and get a powerful rock voice.
He is not only a very talent singer he’s a amazing person too, it’s very important in a band cause in recordings there are discussions and he understand things well, or show us a lot of possibilities, that’s because he is very talent, I think Thy grows and will grow more with Allan. Allan it’s good to have you in the team (laughs).

Cesar: A great singer, friend and professional. And the Principal thing, we root for the same soccer team, our great Palmeiras. (laughs).

Rene: A great professional, very dedicated to work and it´s the better Singer Thy Symphony ever had in my opinion, ah of course he is a great friend too, what is very important to work together

Camila: First of all, Allan is a great friend. We met when we were 18 years old. We both were young (yeah yeah we are not that old now! (Laughs) and it was great for me to accompany how his voice was getting bigger and bigger. It was just great when I heard him singing and Thy Symphony was looking for a male singer, and then I told him “you should sing for the guys of the band, you are what we are looking for”. Well, he sang and now there he is (laughs).. He is an amazing singer and a wonderful person to work with.

Hanna Tsepesh: Allan I would like to send you my congratulations for your work in this album, I think you are very versatile singer and I wish you all the best for your career with Thy Symphony and I hope that you don’t give up on this! Tell me, what is your biggest influence (singer that you admire the most)? When you start to sing? You have any singing lesson or any preparation?

Allan: Thanks Hanna, I don’t have a biggest influence now, when I started to sing, I was listening Iron Maiden so much and Bruce is my favorite singer. I’ve always searching for versatility and you can get it singing everything. I had lessons (erudite) with Camila, everything started with her (laughs) and other singers, now I study alone. I have another band that play in a lot of Pubs in São Paulo, and I have to sing everything: Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Pop Music, Blues, R&B and Brazilian Music. I think it’s very good for any singer. In my opinion there are some singers that can sing everything like, Jorn Lande, Paul Rodgers, Oliver Hartmann, Nando Fernandes and others, of course these are my influence too.

Hanna Tsepesh: Also Allan, it was easy to integrate in Thy Symphony?

Allan: Well, I was playing my guitar in my room and Camila called me telling about the problems with the previous singer. I knew Thy Symphony in her home (about 3 or 4 years ago) when I was studying with her and they had a great singer that sings like Dio and Hansi Kursh I was 19 and I just started to have lessons. So when she finished talking about their problems I asked: “Okay, you need me to indicate another singer, right? She said: “No, I was thinking about you. So I’ll send music by e-mail you learn it and tomorrow we’ll go to Rene’s home to meet Marcello and you’ll sing it to them, OK?” I told: “Ahn, errr, OK” So now I’m here (laughs).

Hanna Tsepesh: Camila, you have singing lesson right? What age you start to take lessons and was an easy process for you or you are kind of lucky girl that born with this talent? You have an amazing powerful voice I am really surprised with your talent! You are one of my favorite top female singers! I think you will have a great successful career.

Camila: Thank you very much for your comment, you are really kind!! Yes, I have singing lessons with an awesome teacher called Isabel Maresca. She is the teacher of a lot of important opera singers here in Brazil. She helped me to find my voice, and I can tell you that it was not easy! I started to sing when I was 14 years old. I had a lot of teachers, but no one helped me like Isabel did (and keep doing). She was the first person that could show me what a real singing technique is.

Hanna Tsepesh: Rene and Cesar I would like to know when you start to play your instruments and why the choice? You guys have any musician that you admire the most?

Cesar: I started to play acoustic guitar with 9 years old, and with 11 years old I started to play guitar. I have maiden this choice because I saw great guitar players playing guitar and I wanted to play their solos. I like Malmsteen, Steve vai and John Petrucci.

Rene:I Started to play bass with 17 years old,I like Billy Shehann,Steve Harris and Jari Kainulainen

Hanna Tsepesh: One little curiosity: How emerge the band name (Thy Symphony)? Is any reason?

Marcello: Well, Rene and I, we were talking about a name and we think it needs to have Symphony and it needs to involve the people will hear the band, the fans. So Rene Says Thy Symphony I said ok, (laughs).

Rene:I agree Marcello (laughs).. The same answer. (laughs).

Hanna Tsepesh: about your new album call” Harmonizing the World”, I love this album! The both voices work very good together, great melodies and riffs! For me this album revels a lot of Thy Symphony is and also when we listen we thing “Yeah, this is Thy Symphony!” for me you guys create your own style like we can listen in: “Broken wings”, “Survivor” and “The Braves from Highlands” in that music’s we can feel your talent! For people who don’t listen yet can you talk about” Harmonizing the World” and what the band wants to accomplish?

Camila: We’ve been together for a lot of years, so this album is the result of all the things we’ve been through. Now we know how to get each important musical point of all members. We understand each other, not like musicians only, but as good friends as well.

Allan: This is not only a Metal Album, there are a lot of classical music elements. There’re a lot of bands with a male and female singer but I’ve never heard with our kind of duets, it’s very difficult because you have to synchronize the voices. Everyone can do it on the records, but you have to do it alive, to sound like a choir and you can’t do it like a Robot we need to coordinate presence and technique this is a great challenge, I can’t wait to play our music alive, it’s different, some groups play exactly on the album and you have the impression that is just listening the CD, I think we have a lot of energy and it can be released playing alive. Other thing that made me join the group is Identity, I’ve never seen any sound like this, this is “Thy Symphony” this is our fingerprint!

Marcello: Harmonizing the world is an album about hope, we begin the spoken about the hope, Pandora’s box it’s a song about hope cause all evil in the world came out from that box but the hope stays, always there is hope. So comes the songs about St. Francis of Assisi, Broken wings about a man between money and God. I tried to tell the history of St. Francis without any religion thing, just tell the history of a great man that lived in poverty, lived for to love and not to be loved. I think he is a great man and a true man of God so different from the rich people from Vatican.
Of course we have songs about other themes too, and I love all the songs, I thing this album has a lot of passion, is very heavy with good melodies, riffs and arrangements.
By the way I agree Allan below in every single word (laughs).

Rene: We tried to show our own identity, to show all we can do, to show our real style our fingerprint like Allan said. It was made with a lot of determination and hope, like the themes from our album. I believe it’s really a great album

Cesar: It’s a great Album. Together, we joined the best qualities of each member of the band to bring up the best album we could have made!

Hanna Tsepesh: Everything went well at recording studio? It was an easy process? The band feels proud with the final result or you think that miss something?

Marcello: I love this album Hanna, I think we made a great job, Allan and Camila, they are great in this album. I think we all work very well and I’m very proud of our band, of my friends. I want to say thank you so much for Allan, Camila, Cesar and Matt and of course a very special thanks to Rene, cause he is not only a great bass player he is a great producer and a great friend. So yes I believe we find our own music and I’m very satisfied with this album.

Rene: The recordings was not easy, because our music is very complex, but with dedication of all of us we get a great result and I’m very proud.

Cesar: Recording is always a hard thing to do. You need to be psychologically ready to do your best. You have to put all your feelings to the instrument, so the music will live up. I’m very proud with the final result.

Allan: I had some difficulty in the beginning, it was new for me. I have more experience singing alive other kind of music than recording heavy metal on the studio, After 2 or 3 months my voice changed and I was singing harder than when we started, I was training everyday and after this period, I could sing easier than before and is was sounding better, harder, so I told the guys, let’s do it again. I recorded all the voice line again. It sounds good, I’m very perfectionist and I help the guys to produce, listening to all the tracks a lot of times…

Camila: I think every recording process is not easy. It’s not easy for the musician to feel satisfied with he’s listening. We always think “I can do it better” and suddenly you get yourself repeating the same phrase for one hundred times. I really enjoyed the final result, I think everybody there did their best. That’s the most important thing.

Hanna Tsepesh: You guys are searching for a label, right? How are the things doing with that?

Marcello: Well, We sent our promo stuff for some labels in the world, Some of this labels have a lot off terrible bands, I don’t understand why they don’t answer when a good band send their work, but I have some good answers. We choose the better one and we are making a deal with a label from Europe, as we sign the contract we will inform about the day our cd will be released. And of course the Gates of metal will be the first one to know about this date.

Hanna Tsepesh: I like a lot the Thy Symphony logo I think is very cool and the cover album is great! Who is the person behind this cool work? Did you think that the cover transmit what “Harmonizing The World” is?

Rene: The cover was made by my great brother and if He won’t do that I would hit him, (laughs). I believe the cover is exactly what Harmonizing the World is, and I can guarantee our covers always will be great, cause I believe the bands today, seems don’t care about cover of their albums, only a few care about it.

Marcello: Yes I think the cover is perfect, and logo too, Andre Labate is Rene’s brother, He has a great talent to understand Thy music and to put it in a image, I believe that’s because he hears our music all the time, he’s with us in all the recordings, so thinking well it was very easy to him. (Laughs).

Cesar: The work on the cover is wonderful. All ideas from the songs were perfectly reproduced on the cover and the pictures. Andre Labate, and all members of band are congratulated.

Allan: I like the Cover; we went to a Rustic Capel to take those pictures. It was very funny because we was wearing black and the people was thinking that we are demons (laughs)

Camila: (laughs). André Labate (Rene’s brother) did all that great job! He’s always together with us; he helped us a lot making the art work. When you look to the album cover you can see exactly what Harmonizing the World is.

Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your album safely, what they can do?

Allan: Marcello, Help me!

Marcello: Like I Said before, we are making a deal with a label, so soon Will be easy to buy our album.

Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this album and why?

Camila: My favorite one is The Brave from Highlands, because that song shows a lot of us, there are aggressive and melodic parts, a lot of orchestral arrangements and choirs, it’s a long song with a lot of elements, it’s like you could hear in only one music everything we wanted to put in the album.

Allan: Well my favorite is The Brave from Highlands; you can hear hard and lyric voice in that song. I love this “blend”.

Cesar: My favorite song is survivor. It haves a great energy and thrills everyone who listens to it.

Rene: My Favorite one is Shadows and Dust, because I dream with its theme and it became a great music. I think there are other great songs like Survivor and The Brave from Highlands

Marcello: Well, seems my friends like The Brave from Highlands a lot, (laughs)... I love this music too of course, it is perfect and has everything about Thy. It’s heavy and epic. It’s very hard to me to tell a favorite one, I love all, but ok come on, (laughs)... I think Shadows and Dust it’s a great music because it’s like a The Brave from Highlands with 5 minutes. I love Sun and Moon and Raising from the sand very beauty songs, Survivor, very heavy and I think I tell everything about stupid people who don’t love themselves, Pandora’s Box cause very epic and heavy.
Ah I cannot forget Harmonizing the world, it has great riffs and melodies. Oh God it’s very hard to tell just one song, this songs are like my children, (laughs).

Hanna Tsepesh: The band is thinking about a European tour? You guys have plains to include Portugal in your tour or something? You like to come in here?

Rene: Of course we think to play in Europe, to play in Portugal too, we have lot friends in Portugal, like you Hanna, (laughs)... And we need to play for these people

Cesar: Of course, we would like a lot to play in Portugal and all other countries in Europe. In fact, we have plans to play in all countries around the whole world!

Camila: Ohhh yeah! Hanna Of course we would like to go to Portugal. Actually, I would love to go there! I hope the tour comes soon, I’m very anxious.

Marcello: Yes, of course, it’s our dream to play in Europe and to play in Portugal is our duty, because we have great friends there. Hanna we need to know you. (laughs).

Hanna Tsepesh: (laughs) It will be fun!

Allan: We’re still searching for a label, it’s difficult now. But every South American heavy metal band has this dream…

Hanna Tsepesh: I have one funny question by one of our readers! She asks me to ask Rene and Marcello if you guys are brothers? I know that a lot of people think that so I want to clarify the things… (Laughs)

Marcello: (laughs). We are close like brothers, We grew together we knew each other since 10 years old I think, I don’t remember the right time but we play video-game, play soccer all the thing the little boys do in the childhood (laughs)., it was a long time ago. Today we play in a band together, (laughs)... I think we are brothers but not from the same mother and father. By the way, my mother care about Rene like her son and Rene’s mother care about me like her son too.
If you can understand we are not brothers, but we are, do you understand? I think I just complicated the things. (laughs).

Hanna Tsepesh: (laughs)

Rene: We met each other since our childhood, a great friendship we never had problems, so we are brothers, not the same blood, but brothers.

Hanna Tsepesh: Do you want to send any message for the people Who going to read this interview?

Marcello: Well, I hope you all hear our album, it will be available soon.
So listen to our music, send us your questions, we will answer all, it takes time but we will. I hope you like our album as we like. All the Best for you all.

Cesar: I hope everyone who read this interview give a chance and listen to Harmonizing the World, cause is the best album we could’ve made, we put all our feelings in that, from the main cover to the last chord.

Camila: Just want to send a big thank you for all the readers and for all the support that we are getting from the wonderful fans. Thank you very much and I hope to see you on the road soon!

RED WARLOCK

Hanna Tsepesh: Ciao (Hello in Italian) Marco! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! First of all: how are you and for those who do not know Red Warlock could tell us a little how it all started?

Marco: Ciao Hanna! Nice to meet you.
It started in 2005 by an idea of Andrea, me and Tony, but only in the 2009 and after a lot of adventures (laughs) the band has found its perfect shape and equilibrium, taking strength by the great feeling now exists.

Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired the most to create the lyrics? The band writes the lyrics first or first the band creates the riffs and the melody to comply with the lyrics?

Marco: Each lyric is written taking inspirations by fantasy, horror books/films and epic themes, sometimes hiding real facts. For example, in Awakening we talk about a classic satanic rite, but it's very clear that in “Slave to Master” there is a hidden personal story, “converted” in an epic story.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? Have you any musician that you admire the most?

Marco: My favorite band?! Ha! I have a long list of bands! In that period I'm listening to some black metal, but I've never left bands like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Primordial and Symphony X! The rest of the band is inspired by various metal and rock genres. It's clear that the band is inspired by bands like Nevermore, Judas Priest and Iced Earth.
I don't have a particular musician that I admire... but if there would be one... I think Tony Iommi. He is the symbol of metal, of the metal I like. He started everything, he made sound experiments, and he explored the darkest part of music, creating the best band in the world.

Hanna Tsepesh: You have another band or some future project? Or your time is only for this band?

Marco: I have two another bands. My own band, called Lord Goblin, with my wife and my great friend Bart “Emptiness” Zinellu. This is a personal project. I define it as Heavy Black Metal, oriented in the Primordial and Immortal style. The second band I have is called Memento Waltz, a great prog metal band that, I'm sure, and you’ll listen to in the future. Now we're working on our first full length... I'm so excited, excited like I started the recordings of Sabrewolf.

Hanna Tsepesh: I would like to know if you had or have any singing lessons or any other preparation?

Marco: I don't have any vocal training, I started to sing listening to metal singers like Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio and Ozzy Osbourne... but my list of singing inspirations is longer than the list of my favorite bands!(laughs) I like to be raw, powerful and technical at the same time.

Hanna Tsepesh: Let’s talk about the “Sabrewolf” promo. I already told what I think about this fantastic Promo in my review and now for people who don’t listen yet can you tell to us about this promo and what was the goal?

Marco: The goal is to take a record deal, a big record deal... and to play our music all over the world. Now it's the time... I'm 26... I think it's the time to try and to look for. The band is ready.
For all the people... I've no words to explain this promo... just buy it and listen to it! (laughs)

Hanna Tsepesh: Everything went well at recording studio? This Promo was produced by Sasha Gerstner (Helloween guitarist), how was the feeling to work with him? The band learns something with him?

Marco: (laughs) you’re wrong... only Gianni has recorded with Sasha Gerstner, with his band Reel Fiction. Sabrewolf was recorded entirely in our studio, by Andrea.

Hanna Tsepesh: Oh (laughs) sorry for the mistake. How has the response been to the Promo by the fans and media?

Marco: Great! We have received great reviews till now... and fantastic comments by the “fans” (a big word for now [laughs]). I think this promo is an appetizer of the full length... There is a bomb ready to explode, I think.
Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your promo, what they can do?

Marco: Just send me an email at m.piu@hotmail.it or contact us on MySpace www.myspace.com/redwarlockofficial. The cost is 6.00€, shipping costs excluded

Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this Promo and why?
Marco: I like each track of this promo. I think each song has a great feeling, power and tell what it has to tell very good. The best recording I sang till now.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are the future plains for Red Warlock and what we can expect from the future album?

Marco: The future plains are to play our music all over the world. It's the main thing we want. We are looking for a record deal, so we prefer to sign before publish our full length. Personally, I think that the future will bring great things for us.

Hanna Tsepesh: The band shared the stage with a much known power metal band “Labyrinth”. How was this concert for the band?

Marco: Only me and Andrea shared the stage with Labyrinth, when we played with another band in 2005. Personally, in that time, I realized I'm singer...with some capabilities to take something from music. I realized what I've done before that gig...my vocal abilities. I'll never forget that concert.

Hanna Tsepesh: What is your opinion about the metal in your country (Italy)? It is easy to get some support?

Marco: In Italy there are a lot of great bands, but penalized by mass media and fashions. Just listen to Chaoswave, Holy Martyr for example... bands of my island Sardegna...
Hanna Tsepesh: Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?

Marco:Friends, this promo is a great chance to listen to a good band! I sincerely hope you like it!

Hanna Tsepesh: Thanks o much for your answers and time. THE GATES OF METAL wishes the entire band a big success! Hope to see you guys very soon in here…

Marco: Thanks to you and your Webzine Hanna, you're very very kind!

Hanna Tsepesh: You are very welcome and thanks for the kind words! All the best

WIDOW SUNDAY

Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Adam! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! First of all: how are you and how are the things doing with your concerts?

Adam: Thanks Hanna, happy to talk with you. We're doing great and have been having an awesome summer. Over the past few months we have played some amazing regional shows with a ton of great national and local acts, but we're starting to wind down and really focus on writing for our first full-length album.

Hanna Tsepesh: For those who do not know Widow Sunday could tell us a little how it all started?

Adam: We started this band in December of 2007 as more of a gathering of friend than anything else. Our bassist Pat and myself were playing in another band at the time, and a couple guys from a band we were friends with that had since broken up wanted to jam. We all got together along with our drummer Darin, who I've played off and on with ever since we were in high school together. Things were pretty casual for a while, just writing music we enjoyed and playing a few shows. After a few months, the band Pat and I were playing with full-time ended up splitting. Shortly after that our singer left, and our current vocalist Jacob joined. Things got a lot more serious after that, and we have really been going full steam this year since the addition of our new guitarist Sean, the release of our debut EP, and our signing to Rat Pak Records.

Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired you the most to create the lyrics? The band writes the lyrics first or first the band creates the riffs to comply with the lyrics?

Adam: The lyrics are entirely Jacob's department (laughs). He writes based on many different topics, some really person, some more analytical of various aspects of the human condition. We certainly don't stray into political or the typical "woe-is-me" territory though, we write aggressive music and the lyrics follow suit. As far as the songwriting process, we typically write the music first and then present it to Jake for him to work his magic with. That formula may change down the road as we grow as artists, but for the time being it's proven to be a very effective formula.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? You have any musician that you admire the most?

Adam: That's a tough question, as we all draw inspiration from an extremely wide range of bands. I think that works strongly in our favor though. While we are all influenced by a myriad of bands, at no point have we ever tried to copy any group or style. We know what we like, and simply write music that is honest to ourselves. As far as some specific bands we love though, definitely classics like Pantera, Meshuggah, and Cannibal Corpse. We all love a lot of newer bands too such as Whitechapel, Devildriver, Despised Icon, etc. But again, we all love a ton of different stuff, and while it certainly comes into play influentially, we certainly don't try to copy our favorite bands to sound popular.

Hanna Tsepesh: You have another band or some future project? Or your time is only for Window Sunday?

Adam: We've all been in various projects over the years, but at this point in time we all focus our time and energy solely on Widow Sunday. We all strongly believe in this band and the music we create, plus I know that I personally have never had so much in a band with such talented people before. This group isn't going anywhere for quite a while, and we're going to keep working as hard as we can because this is absolutely what all five of us love more than anything else in the world.

Hanna Tsepesh: I would like to know when you start to play guitar? When you start to learn it was a difficult process for you?

Adam: I suppose in the grand scheme of things I haven't been playing terribly long seeing as I'm only in my early twenties. I started playing guitar in my early teens, and picked it up relatively quickly. I was never terribly interested in shredding, so spent most of my time learning about theory and composition, which ended up helping me tremendously as a songwriter. I love having Sean in this band, because he's not only an amazing songwriter as well but is a great lead player, so our different styles and educations mesh together extremely well.

Hanna Tsepesh: Let’s talk about your debut EP “Embracing the Beast Within”. For people who don’t listen yet can you tell to us what we can expect from this EP?

Adam: We are extremely proud of this EP, but it is only an introduction to the band. It has everything we set out to convey in our music: lots of hooks, solid grooves, enough technicality to keep things interesting, enough melody to give it some diversity, and constant brutality. We have grown immensely since recording it, however, and absolutely can't wait to unveil all of the material we have compiled for our first full-length record.

Hanna Tsepesh: Everything went well at recording studio? The band feels pride with the final result or in your opinion is something that you like to change?

Adam: The recording experience was a blast, Jim Foster is a great produced and a super cool guy. Spending time in the studio can be tough on any new band, but we found it to be really pleasant and incredibly helpful to our initial development as a unit. If we could go back would we change anything about the record? Probably. But we don't see much point in concerning ourselves with something like that. In music, there's only sense in continually moving forward. We are proud of everything we've done, and use it all as a learning experience to grow as artists and continue to write better and better songs.

Hanna Tsepesh: How has the response been to the EP by the fans and media?

Adam: The response has been overwhelmingly positive! Sales have been great, our fans at shows know and love the songs when we perform them, and we've gotten some stellar reviews. Really, you can't ask for anything for when you release something you've put so much heart and hard work into. Ultimately, we make music because we enjoy it ourselves, but having it appreciated by our fans is the most rewarding thing we could ever ask for. Someone you've never met in your life coming up and expressing their love for your art is one of the most incredible feelings in the world.

Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your EP, what they can do?

Adam: Our label and Century Media Distribution have done a phenomenal job in making our music available to virtually anyone who wants to check it out. The best places to go are www.ratpakrecordsamerica.com or www.cmdistro.com, but it's also available on sites like Amazon and iTunes as well.

Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this EP and why?

Adam: That's always the hardest question to answer (laughs). If I don't absolutely love a song and believe in it completely, I wouldn't play it and certainly wouldn't record it. Though I suppose if I had to pick one song off the EP, it would have to be "The Strings of Clarity". While it is the lead single, I also feel it really sums up everything we are about as a band.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are the future plains for the band? You guys are thinking about an album or something?

Adam: We have nearly completed the writing process for our first full length album, and plan on buckling down and working on pre-production for the month of October. After that's squared away and we are absolutely confident with the material, we will hit the studio and hopefully be able to release something by early next year.

Hanna Tsepesh: Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?

Adam: Thanks for your interest in what we're doing! We're not out to be the next Metallica, we just want to get out there and do what we love and have fun. Our growing fan base consistently amazes us, and we are eternally thankful to all of them for giving us more and more opportunities to take our careers further and keep playing music for all of you.

Hanna Tsepesh: Thanks o much for your answers and time. THE GATES OF METAL wishes the entire band a big success! Hope to see you guys very soon in here…

Adam: Thanks for having me Hanna, hopefully speak with you again soon.

Hanna Tsepesh: You are very welcome Adam, thanks a lot too!

TWISTED ROOTS

Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Adam Powers! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! First of all: how are you and how are the things doing with your concerts?

Adam Powers: Things are going great! We have been playing shows over
the summer but have been concentrating on promoting our new video for
the song Hollow Earth. We just won the grand prize for best overall
video for the month of August on Our Stage. We are very proud of the
video and excited that people seem to be loving it.

Hanna Tsepesh: For those who do not know Twisted Roots could tell us a little how it all started?

Adam Powers: It started 20 years ago last June in Portland Maine. We
signed our first record deal in 1992 and our first album "Turn To
Stone" came out in 1993 on Cherry Disc Records. We would go on to
release another full length album, "Communication", and the ,"Red"
,E.P. on Cherry Disc before moving on to 1997s "Body In The Trunk
Brick On The Gas" on Down With The Man Records. We took a break for a
few years and then regrouped to put out "The Seed" Ep on our own
record label in2005. We were introduced to Joe from Rat Pak in 2006
and put out our first album 12 Skies Fire And The Black on the label in 2007. Our 2009 album Volume 1 is a retrospective of our 20 year career filled with currently non published music, alternate mixes, never before released songs, and 2 brand new songs.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? You have any musician that you admire the most?

Adam Powers: I listen to many kinds of music and admire them for 1
reason, songwriting. Whenever I hear a song I try to figure out what
kind of thinking went into writing it. I have pulled many ideas from
music that is nothing like Twisted Roots. My guitar idol is Jimmie
Page because of his awesomeness and indelible stain on Hard
Rock/Metal. For new bands who I feel are great songwriters and doing
something important I like Metric, Neko Case, Queens Of The Stone Age,
Muse, Blue October, and Mastadon. That's just a sample of the
diversity of things I listen to.

Hanna Tsepesh: When you start to play guitar? It was difficult to learn?

Adam Powers: I started playing guitar when I was 15. I learned on an
old nylon string acoustic. It was hard at first but I was so excited
to be able to write my own songs that it helped me play through the
initial learning pains.

Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired the most to create the lyrics? The band writes the lyrics first or first the band creates the riffs to comply with the lyrics?

Adam Powers: It depends on the song but we usually write the music first and then figure out the vocals later.

Hanna Tsepesh: Let’s talk about the “Volume I” album. For people who don’t listen yet can you tell to us about this album?

Adam Powers: Well, I stated to describe this album in the second
question but will elaborate here. Joe, the president of Rat Pak, came
up with the idea of releasing older material that was no longer in
print and the band decided to go in and record 2 new tracks to help
flush out the collection. It is also peppered with a live track, an
alternate mix, and 2 never before released tracks.

Hanna Tsepesh: Everything went well at recording studio? The band feels pride with the final result or in your opinion is something that you like to change?

Adam Powers: Everything went great in the studio. We went in to the
studio and recorded both new songs top to bottom in 6 hours. That
includes getting sounds. When it comes to recording we enter into it
fully prepared.

Hanna Tsepesh: How has the response been to the album by the fans and media?

Adam Powers: It has been amazing! People love the mix of songs and
love the video for Hollow Earth.
Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your album, what they can do?

Adam Powers: Go to our MySpace site: myspace.com/twistedrootsonline
and buy a hard copy from us or order it digitally from all major
digital stores.

Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this album and why?

Adam Powers: The song Hollow Earth because of its intensity and the
fact that making the video introduced us to the amazing people at
Zenfilm in Houston Texas.
Hanna Tsepesh: What is your big advice for a young musician?
Adam Powers: Believe in what you are doing, listen to other people’s
advice but always be true to what you are trying to accomplish. This
will not always be the most popular way to do things but in the end
you will always have integrity and know that you did the right thing.
Musical trends come and go but great music lasts forever.

Hanna Tsepesh: Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?

Adam Powers: Support original music and people who are breaking the
mold and doing their own thing. Take chances and listen to Loud
Fucking Music!

HOUR PAST

Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Malcom! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! First of all: how are you and how are the things doing with your concerts?

Malcom: Doing very well, thanks… We’re doing fair to well with concerts. We had a huge let-down with a recent concert on the main-stage at the 3 Doors Down show at Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Gilford, NH, which we ended up not playing due to basically being treated poorly and lied to. Apart from that, doing pretty well. We had the opportunity to share venues this past summer with Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle, and Korn, which were really fanomenal experiences!! We had a great turn-out at our CD release party and we all felt very thankful for the support.

Hanna Tsepesh: For those who do not know Hour Part could tell us a little how it all started?

Malcom: From what I understand, Josh, (drummer) and Jeff, (guitarist) were in a band with a couple other former members and were looking for a singer. I guess Coopa, (current singer) walked by the band’s practice space and heard them and I think asked if they needed a singer. From what I understand, chemistry was sparked right away. It’s a bit difficult to tell the “how it all started” because I was not around at the beginning.

Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired you the most to create the lyrics? The band writes the lyrics first or first the band creates the riffs to comply with the lyrics?

Malcom: Lyrical inspirations vary. The title song, “Drift” is about the band sort of, well, drifting for some time after the first CD, a “Vacant Smile”. The guitarist had left and the band struggled to stay strong. I think what happens is a combination—in terms of lyrics being written prior to the music. There is artistry in our writing music; Coop writes the lyrics. Sometimes, either Jeff or I come out with some riff and start jamming and creating. Then, Coop would sometimes join in with where his artistry leads him, which means, even some lyrics may be introduced. With this, however, the main thing is getting the melodies with lyrics to be a works in progress with editing. On our CD, “Drift,” some of the lyrics were being changed around—even the day before recording it in the studio. It’s pure artistry to write together!
We have different strengths, too. Jeff has attended Berkley College of Music, which gives him obvious theory and is skilled with arrangement as well. Jeff also has done significant painting with acrylics and oils—even as a child. Coop writes lyrics and is an all-around artist—also being a drawer/painter, and tattoo artist as well.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? You have any musician that you admire the most?

Malcom: Among us all, there’s too many to mention. I think Coop likes a lot of music from the 80s but, if you could see his music library, it’s endless. Our likes span years and even genres as well. I think it’s safe to say all of us have always been drawn to bands with a lot of musicianship and also melodic styles.
For me, one of my biggest inspirations—in terms of bass playing—has been Geddy Lee, from Rush because he’s always been an out-of-the-box player/writer as well as very melodic, intelligent, and wrote bass lines with such solidity and is a vital component of any given song.

Hanna Tsepesh: You have another band or some future project? Or your time is only for Hour Past?

Malcom: I’m committed to Hour Past at present.

Hanna Tsepesh: When you start to play bass? It was difficult to learn?

Malcom: No, it was somewhat intuitive. I first picked up the bass when I was playing in a band, when I was in junior high school. I actually started off playing the guitar but one of the guitarists felt as though his “limelight” was somehow threatened and asked to switch. We switched instruments, and I immediately started playing bass far better than him—even at very first try. Again, it was intuitive to me. I also had a few years of lessons on the cello prior to this, which I think also helped me to be tuned into the lower tones and foundational work. I soon after trained under a Berkley College of Music PhD graduate for about 6 years on bass guitar.
After getting into it, the bass became a challenge for me and—to this day—it still is. I always challenge myself to be a strong component of the rhythm section and to create, melodic, and smart bass lines, which not only compliment any given song, but lock in to drums, play off guitar, and hopefully create an experiential composition.

Hanna Tsepesh: Let’s talk about the “Drift” album. For people who don’t listen yet can you tell to us what we can expect from this album?

Malcom: Drift is an album with variety, which would be easily-appreciated—once heard. There are a couple of harder-driven songs and an in-between, and a lesser, more toward ballad type as well. One thing I feel that we hear about the album, and will be hopefully evident to listeners, is the chemistry we have is evident. Even though it might sound cliché, there is most certainly some great chemistry among us.
Another component to the album “Drift” is the self-titled song itself. It offers a lyrical meaning/metaphor for the actual band’s experience after doing the album, “Vacant Smile,” having a bit of loss of momentum with changing some band members, as well as down-time in writing, recording, and playing out—as I mentioned earlier.
When I met, and auditioned, the band, it was the actual first day of Jeff, (guitarist) had sort of was “coming back,” (if you will), to the band. So, the meaning and related emotional component of the song is rich.

Hanna Tsepesh: Everything went well at recording studio? The band feels pride with the final result or in your opinion is something that you like to change?

Malcom: Our studio experience with Wyman was excellent; we, as a band, all feel very proud it. I suppose there’s always some minor adjustments that some of us feel we could do but we are, overall, very pleased, indeed. One specific thing I think we might have added is some harmonies that we’ve come up with since recording. However, we wrote fairly quickly together—getting back to the chemistry we have. We started meeting, practicing, and writing only this past February and recorded the new CD only a few months after.
Wyman’s link is: thissoundsgood.com

Hanna Tsepesh: How has the response been to the album by the fans and media?

Malcom: So far, the response has been very positive. Many say things like, “best yet.” Many seem to like the versatility the CD offers. Some have also said things like, “wish there were more.” It was a mutual decision among us to make this an EP and we don’t regret it but, still, wanting to please listeners only motivates us to write more and get back in the studio!!! There also have been many, who have said they wish that we were had more air-time on radio.

Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your album, what they can do?

Malcom: As far as I know, a condom is sold separately when buying the CD. The CD is available on itunes and in stores, such as Tower Records, Bull Moose, and others. There are links to legitimately purchasing the CD on our myspace site and Ratpak records site, as well as other sites.
www.myspace.com/hourpast
ratpakrecordsamerica.com/hourpast.cfm

Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this album and why?

Malcom: My overall favorite song changes any given day; again, then album is versatile. However, I favor certain aspects about some of the songs. For example, I tend to feel the emotional element of the song, “Drift.” I favor the power—not only in the song but the energy that it takes to play in “Insomnia.” My favorite song, in terms of solid locking rhythm is “If Only.” I also love to play the song, “20/Fourty” because the song is technical for me, which I love and is just fun for me.

Hanna Tsepesh: Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?

Malcom: Well, to buy and experience our CD. We’d also love to gain more air-time on radio.
We also love feedback, and we love to hear the good, bad, and ugly. We feel we can’t grow without hearing it all…We also hope to do what we can to please listeners and that’s hard to do without knowing what the feedback truly is.
We’re also amazingly grateful for and want to largely thank any past and current supporters!
Hanna Tsepesh: Thanks o much for your answers and time. THE GATES OF METAL wishes the entire band a big success! Hope to see you guys very soon in here…

Malcom: One million thanks for the chance to have this interview! We wish you, and The Gates of Metal, the very best!

Hanna Tsepesh: You are very welcome and thanks a lot for the kind words! All the best for you too...

HELL WITHIN

Hanna Tsepesh: Hello Tony! Thanks so much for accepting this interview and Welcome to THE GATES OF METAL! First of all: how are you guys and how are the things doing with your concerts?

Tony: Hey there, no problem at all. Thank you for the offer. Things are going well, we’re just busy in the rehearsal room writing the new disc. Right now we haven’t been doing too many shows to concentrate solely on writing the new material. You’ll see a lot of Hell Within starting in May 2010.

Hanna Tsepesh: For those who do not know Hell Within could tell us a little how it all started?

Tony: Hell Within started in 2002 in Lowell, Ma. We released our 1st world wide album in 2005 entitled “Asylum Of The Human Predator” and 2nd album in 2007 entitled “Shadows Of Vanity”. The band had a music video for the song “Bleeding Me Black” off of our 1st release. Hell Within has done multiple US tours as well as had numerous reviews/interviews.

Hanna Tsepesh: What inspired the most to create the lyrics? The band writes the lyrics first or first the band creates the riffs to comply with the lyrics?

Tony: Hell Within’s lyrics have always been about real world situations. They range anywhere from drug abuse to rape to politics to child abuse. Nothing about Hell Within is fake or ridicules, it’s all about relating to everyday people. We like reaching a person in a personal way that they’ll remember and become a fan of the band.
We always write the music 1st and then write the lyrics to go with the music. It has always worked better that way.

Hanna Tsepesh: What are your favorite bands? You have any musician that you admire the most?

Tony: My favorite bands are Metallica, Slayer and Pantera. In my opinion there are no bands today that can hold up to these standards. These bands are and were the complete package. They’re great musicians as well as song writers. They’re not about over playing, about preaching about the lord or about being straight edge. Just sex, drugs and playing straight forward METAL!

Hanna Tsepesh: You have another band or some future project? Or your time is only for this band?

Tony: I’m happy in this band and have no need to go anywhere else. In Hell Within we do not believe in side projects. I’m going to start pursuing a career as a booking agent but will not leave Hell Within. I’ve always been interested in the business side of the music industry and have booked more tours than I can count. It’s something I’m very good at and it makes me happy.

Hanna Tsepesh: I would like to know when you start to play guitar and why you pick this instrument?

Tony: I started to play guitar when I was 13 years old. I always looked up to musicians such as James Hetfield and Dime Bag both as players and as people. So what other instrument would I choose other than guitar...

Hanna Tsepesh: Let’s talk about the “Shadows of Vanity” album. For people who don’t listen yet can you tell to us about this album?

Tony: Shadows came out in 2007 world wide. It was an album that we tried a few different things on, musically. It was also the last album with our original vocalist performing. To say the least that album was a learning experience!

Hanna Tsepesh: Everything went well at recording studio? The band feels happy with the final result or in your opinion is something that you like to change?

Tony: Everything went well in the studio. We had a great team of engineers that worked with us on the project. John Ellis from Prism Sound tracked the album. Mark Lewis of Audio Hammer studios mixed the record. Lastly, Tom Morris from Morris finished up by mastering the disc. We are very happy with the outcome of everyone’s hard work.

Hanna Tsepesh: How has the response been to the album by the fans and media so far?

Tony: There’s been a mixed reaction to the record. It was a different record for us to make vocally. The vocals were a lot more melodic than our 1st album. Some of the people loved it and others didn’t, but you can’t please everyone. On our next disc we’re getting back to the core of Hell Within. We’re going to stick to what made our 1st album so successful musically and vocally

Hanna Tsepesh: If one of our readers wants to buy your album safely, what they can do?

Tony: They can buy it at FYE, Best Buy, or any retail record store. They can also buy it on line via itunes or any online store that they choice to use.

Hanna Tsepesh: what is your favorite music in this album and why?

Tony: My favorite song on the disc is the title track. In my opinion it’s the most complete song on the disc. It has a lot of different elements of metal and joins them together seamlessly.Hanna Tsepesh: What are the future plains for the band? The band is thinking about a new album or something?

Tony: In spring of 2010 Hell Within will be releasing our new disc entitled “God Grant Me Vengeance”. Then after the release of the new disc Hell Within will be nonstop touring in support of the new effort. We really can’t wait to get back at this, we’re very excited.

Hanna Tsepesh: What is your opinion about the metal in our country (United States)? It is easy to get some support?

Tony: I think metal has lost its song writing ability. Today young musicians can play very well, but it seems that they’re technicality has neither rhyme nor reason. I do love bands like Lamb of God, Bury Your Dead, Killswitch and Devil Driver. I can make an endless list of bands that I don’t care for but we don’t have enough time to discuss this issue. I think sooner or later bands will pay more attention to songwriting rather than sweeping away. Hopefully labels will open their eyes and sign bands with better song writers. Then maybe metal will get out of VFW Halls and back into arenas, but we’ll see what happens.

Hanna Tsepesh: Do you want to send any message for the people who going to read this interview?

Tony: I know it’s been a little while since we’ve seen you, but it will be well worth the wait. We’ve been working hard on the new music and we promise you an amazing album. Then we will be back on the road nonstop. We’ll see you soon and take care.
